Purring for Purim

Yesterday was Purim. It commemorates Queen Esther's saving the Jews of Persia. It is not, contrary to Sen. John McCain's belief, a Jewish Halloween. Some people do dress up and parties are held, but the holiday is a celebration of survival. We all survived Mommy's attempt at baking.
The baked foods served include hamentaschen, pasties stuffed with raisins and jelly and shaped like tri-cornered hats. Every year Mommy attempts to make them and every year they come out wrong. This time they were more like isoceles triangles. She used roll-out dough but just couldn't shape them right. At least this year she didn't set off the smoke detector. The little hats were tasty, though and I learned some new swear words while snoopervising her.
Oh, Mommy's keys are back home. Some honest person turned them into the bus driver. She just had to go down to headquarters and claim them.

happy belated Purim. what a nice queen Queen Esther must have been. I hope every generation gets better and better about being "color and religion" blind.

Your mommy sounds like mine in the kitchen! What is important tho is they keep trying. Hey, who cares if it is pretty if it tastes good. Besides, watching them swear is funny. tee hee hee

Yay fur honest beans! Dad calls our mom "the kitchen Martha Stewart" but dat is about da only place she's good at anything. Our house looks like a tornado went thru it...at least all the junk is clean and we are well fed.

Your momma's attempts at cooking are much more entertaining than mine, I'm afraid. Mom's doin' an Easter ham, but it's 79 degrees here an' all of the windows are open 'cuz it's hot inside AND outside.

Mom loves reading the book of Esther so now I must convince her to read it aloud to me.

A Jewish Halloween? Hahaha! What's that guy been smoking? We've never tried the little triangular hats, but they sure do sound yummy. We're furry happy your mom got her keys back. Purrs!

I love Purim!
I hope you had a very nice Purim!

The dressing up and the hamentaschen are the most fun part.

Trying to cook is good too... you get points for that

Hi Muffin! At least your mom bean tries to cook. That is a good thing. If she does not feel like cooking one day, and she is hungry, tell her to open a can of tuna, eat the fish and give you the tuna juice!

Purrs, Halloween
